Christmas wishes
December 21, 2024Following the sad death of our Honorary President, Dr Melvin Dalgarno, the Committee agreed that we should put in hand the purchase of a commemorative bench to be placed in the Cruickshank Botanic Gardens in Old Aberdeen. It is in those beautiful and peaceful gardens that the Society located the memorial bench for Melvin’s wife Loula some 20 years ago. With advice from the Curator of the Gardens, we have identified a suitable location where Melvin’s and Loula’s benches would be placed. We are giving thought to the wording of a plaque which would be affixed to Melvin’s bench. Our intention would be to have a commemorative celebration in the Gardens in the Spring of 2025 to which members of Melvin’s family would also be invited.
We are also considering other ways in which we can recognise Melvin’s devoted support of the Society since its inception. We are aware that there is already a wish among many current and former Society members to contribute to a memorial for Melvin. We are, therefore, establishing what we are currently terming “Melvin’s Fund” to which we would be very pleased to accept contributions, initially towards the cost of his commemorative bench.
Should you wish to contribute to the Fund and thus the cost of the memorial bench, you can do so by -
(a) bank transfer to account number 10019123 sort code 82-60-16 putting “Melvin’s Fund” as the reference, or
(b) cheque made payable to Aberdeen Scottish Hellenic Society (Melvin’s Fund) sent to Mr M Shanks, Treasurer, ASHS, Westerton Farm, Aberlour AB38 9NS
Thank you in anticipation of your support.
