”The Aegean Bronze Age” a talk by Dr Despoina Sampatakou on 20th of February
February 17, 2025We are pleased to let you know that, in response to requests from a number of members, we have arranged for a Ceilidh to take place on Saturday 15 March. Venue will be confirmed soon. Doors will open at 7.30 pm and the evening will conclude by 10.30 pm.
We are delighted to have secured the well known local Ceilidh Band Danse McCabre to provide the music and call the dances. To emphasise that we are a "Scottish Hellenic" Society, they will also include one or two Greek dances in their programme.
The ticket entry cost is £15 for adults and senior school children, and £5 for primary school children; no charge for under 5s. The entry includes the traditional stovies with oatcakes and beetroot, and shortbread; there will also be macaroni cheese for vegetarians. Please note that drinks will be on a "bring your own" basis for both soft drinks and alcohol; we will supply plastic glasses and water. There will also be the chance to win exclusive bottles of whisky and gin (more on that in a future email).
To make this a successful and viable event, it is essential that we have a firm commitment for tickets from sufficient numbers of members and guests. We are, therefore, asking you to give that commitment no later than 19 February. This should be done by sending an email to aberdeenhellenicsociety@ gmail.com giving the names of people who will attend. This commitment will also mean that you undertake to make payment for tickets to the Society by 1 March. If we do not get a sufficient number of commitments we will have no option but to call it off, for which there will be a financial penalty for the Society.
Please do, therefore, reply positively and ensure that we can go ahead with what I am sure will be a really enjoyable occasion.
