Sarakosti: A guide to Greek Lent
March 3, 2025
Greek Easter party cancelation
April 14, 2025An amazing event took place last Saturday on the 15th of March when Aberdeen Scottish Hellenic Society hosted a Ceilidh. Last time we had a Ceilidh was just before lockdown back in 2020 and we were all looking forward to celebrate together at this one.
Around 80 people Greeks and Scottish were gathered at Great Western Community Centre and enjoyed the fantastic music by Danse McCabre. To our surprise the band not only called the Scottish dances but also called -with indeed great success- 2 Greek folk dances!
The traditional stovies with beetroot and oatcakes, and macaroni cheese for vegetarians gave the audience more energy to continue dancing until 10.30!
The night finished with all standing together dancing – singing ‘’Auld Lang Syne’’ and making a promise to organise one more Ceilidh next year!
Thank you all for joining the event and especially to all who helped organising and setting up. Special thanks to Hamish and Mike for organising the details of the event. To Joyce, Pat and Shona for their help with the food and Mike and Catherine for helping on the set up. And a huge thank you to all old members that never stop, all these years, to support our Society. It was really nice to see so many friendly faces!
Last but not least, a big thank you to the new members and friends of the society. It’s promising to see that our Society after 45 years is still active and blossoming! Until next time!
